City-based psychiatrist Vishal Indla has been conferred the prestigious Teacher’s Achievement Award for Young Achievers. The award was given to Dr Vishal at a glittering function in Mumbai along with other winners such as Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, makemytrip CEO Deepak Kalra, Michelin Star Chef Vikas Khanna, Olympic medal winning wrestler Sushil Kumar and film director Ramesh Sippy. The awards were given to persons based on their achievements in different fields. Sippy was given life time achievement award.
Addressing a press conference Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Muttavarapu Murali Krishna said here on Wednesday the award was an enormous achievement and a matter of pride for the people of Vijayawada.
Instituted in 2001, the Teacher’s Achievement Awards recognised the true potential of human endeavour in the realms of business, sports, entertainment, literature, fashion, lifestyle and communication. Today it stands as the most definitive platform of recognition for India’s finest, trailblazing achievers.
The award for young achievers was introduced this year for youth in the 25-35 age group. The prestigious award was given after a selection by jury members such as Anupam Kher, P.K.Banerjee, Hemant Oberai, Ayaz Memon, Ramesh Sippy, Zafar Iqbal, Prahlad Kakkar, Ravi Bhoothaligam, Piyesh Pandey and N. Mahalakshmi.
Dr Vishal said he was shortlisted from numerous entries from across the country and then the jury picked him as the winner based on his personal achievements and his “efforts in promoting positive thinking and allaying the stigma associated with mentally ill”. Many of his programmes were reported in The Hindu. He sent links for the news items to substantiate his claim. The Hindu was very useful to him for that, he said.
Dr Vishal’s father and noted city based psychiatrist Rama Subba Reddy said the award being given to his son of a small town like Vijayawada was not an ordinary achievement.
