The discontentment and ill-will of women borne out of the unfulfilled promises made by the TDP does not augur well for either the State or the people, Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy said.
Participating in the International Women’s Day celebrations conducted by the party at Andhra Ratna Bhavan, Mr. Reddy said women voted for the TDP-BJP combine believing that they would waive loans for women SHGs .
“They were, however, disillusioned with the government, and their discontentment is not good for the State. Women would never have voted for the TDP, but for the false promises the party had made to them,” he said. The respect the Congress had for women was evident from the fact that women held important posts in the party. The BJP, which commands absolute majority in Lok Sabha, is in a position to pass the bill reserving 33 per cent for women in the legislative houses, and the Congress will extend full support to it, Mr. Reddy said. The party felicitated 10 women teachers who were given best teacher award by the government, three sportswomen, who won laurels for the State and nation, and municipal school girls who secured cent per cent marks in SSC exam.
