Communist Party of India – (Marxist) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao on Friday accused the UPA government at the Centre of working on a ploy to gradually withdraw the subsidy component given on LPG now, on the pretext of cash subsidy.
Addressing a dharna staged in front of the Sub-Collector’s office by the party’s city committee in support of its demand that the government withdraw the cash subsidy programme, Mr. Babu Rao said the government move would take LPG beyond the reach of the poorer sections.
He said it was ironical that people who had brought home gas stoves to get rid of firewood were switching back to use of firewood.
