Recession may have led to many IT companies issuing pink slips to their employees, but the IT enabled services (ITES) like Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) units continue to scout for graduates and diploma holders with good communication skills.
Moving beyond cities like Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, BPO firms are descending on tier-II cities and towns like Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry and Warangal to recruit those in the age group of 18-45 who can speak good English.
The salary being offered is usually in the range of Rs.6,000 to Rs.10,000.
One such recruitment drive was conducted in the city on Wednesday by Wipro BPO at Red Apple, the hardware and networking training institute on M.G. Road.
A. Chaitanya Reddy, Manager, Wipro Limited, and B. Muralidhar, director of Credosys Technologies Pvt. Ltd., the training partner of Wipro, subjected the candidates who turned up in good number to a rigorous selection process, which included four levels of tests and interviews. Red Apple director Sridhar Matta facilitated the recruitment drive.
Mr. Reddy said that the Hyderabad unit of Wipro BPO had plans to recruit about 300 associates this month, about 600 next month and a couple of hundreds every month to meet the total manpower requirement.
“There is a scarcity of quality manpower in this industry. In cities like Hyderabad, there are many companies but less number of candidates.
Hence, we have been continuously looking for candidates with good communication skills in different cities and towns. In Vijayawada we conducted a few recruitment drives in the past on the campuses of engineering colleges and other technical institutes. We can recruit as many candidates as possible, if they meet our requirements,” he said.
At the end of the day, five candidates, two of whom had completed B. Tech and the remaining done a general graduation, got selected and given letters of appointment. Another 13 candidates, including those who completed only Intermediate or a diploma courses or a general graduation course, were identified as those who needed to undergo a special training.
Mr. Sridhar said another recruitment drive would be conducted on October 8.
