Visitors at the Swarajya Maidan on Sunday were surprised to see a long queue of consumers at the Green Chilli counter. They were sold only at one counter and that too as per the ration set by the Rythu Bazaar authorities.

Scarcity of the spicy fruit due to rains in Krishna and neighbouring districts forced the authorities to restrict the sale to 200 grams per head. However, the price came down slightly. A kilogram was sold at Rs. 40.

Swarajya Maidan Rythu Bazaar Estate Officer M. Srinivas Sastry said only about 20 bags of Green Chillies had come to the market. Due to rain, farmers did not harvest them and closure of other markets also led to the rise in demand here, he added.

The situation from Monday would be normal and supply of other vegetables would also be as per the requirement, he added.
