It will not be surprising if acute scarcity triggers water wars in the future, said former national president of Indian Medical Association G. Samaram, on Wednesday.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the Gora Science Centre, Vijayawada, to mark World Water Day, he said water was a scarce commodity and it was an issue of serious concern. Water conservation, he said, was the need of the hour, insisting that each individual must contribute their mite to this cause. “We should not waste water and instead, find innovative ways to preserve it for future generations,” he said.

Former MP Chennupati Vidya, Vijayam, Maruthi and others participated.

A drawing and painting competition organised to mark the occasion for children of elementary to post-graduate level, evoked good response. The topics given were related to water conservation.

Winners of the contest will be given prizes at a function scheduled to be held on March 28 (Tuesday) at Gora Science Centre, said its Director G. Niyanta.
