VMC to take up outfall drain issue with Railways

Commissioner asks officials to clear all the side drains and ensure that floodwater flows into the major outfall drains instantly

February 17, 2013 12:28 pm | Updated 12:28 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Municipal Commissioner G.S. Pandadas has asked officials to convene a meeting with railway authorities to sort out the problems associated with Nizam Gate, a major outfall drain in the city.

Mr. Pandadas on Saturday inspected the areas that were inundated due to incessant rain that lashed the city.

The officials told him that the floodwaters were not flowing freely due to choking of the outfall drain.

Though the drain was cleared to the extent possible, waste and garbage continue to stagnate in the drain.

Responding to it, the Commissioner asked the officials to convene a meeting with the railway officials to discuss the issue and sort it out before monsoon sets in.

The Commissioner asked the officials to clear the drains immediately on a war-footing and ensure they did not cause any inconvenience to the public.

He visited zero bulb drain in Rajarajeswaripeta and other areas.

He suggested the officials to clear all the side drains and ensure the flood water flowed into the major outfall drains instantly.

Vijayawada (Central) MLA Malladi Vishnu, VMC CE G. Kondal Rao, EE Om Prakash, and RDO Venkat Rao were present.
