The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is contemplating renovating the gym in Dandamudi Rajagopala Rao Municipal Corporation (DRMC) Indoor Stadium at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs. The officials propose to convert the existing gym into an air-conditioned one and replace the outdated equipment with latest equipment.
The corporation has already received the latest equipment worth Rs.12 lakhs.
New equipment
VMC Regional Fire Officer (RFO) D. Murali Mohan, who is in charge of sports activities, said on Wednesday that the new equipment would be distributed to 10 gyms functioning under the corporation, while DRMC indoor stadium would be converted into main gym. The other gyms that would benefit are the ones located at Makineni Basavapunnaiah stadium, Chennupati Ramakotaiah stadium, Krishnalanka, Gunadala, Gandhi park, Rajarajeswaripeta, Rehman park, Vidyadharapuram and Syam Nagar.
No membership fee
There would be no membership fee for the gyms. However, a monthly fee of Rs. 200 for adults and Rs. 100 for students would be collected. While all other gyms function from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., the DRMC gym would function for extended hours from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., he said.
