Slow pace of works of a project near Excel Plant irks Commissioner

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner G. Ravi Babu has pulled up the contractor of housing project under construction near Excel Plant near Singhnagar here over the slow pace of works and asked him to speed up the process to complete the project as early as possible.

During his visit to the site and other places in the city on Thursday, Mr. Ravi Babu said the progress of the works and the attitude of the contractor were not satisfactory as there was found to be undue delay being caused without any proper reason. He instructed the officials concerned to ensure speedy execution so that the houses would be ready for occupation for the beneficiaries. If needed, more workers should be engaged at the site.

Mr. Ravi Babu also inspected the Excel Plant where he enquired from the officials if there were any problems of stench or gas emanating from the plant causing inconvenience and harm to the general public living in the vicinity. The VMC officials dealing with the plant area said that there was a problem of smoke due to gas from garbage dumped at the site and it was soon solved after the garbage was levelled and the dumping yard was cleaned with the help of water tankers.

Green drive

The Commissioner directed the officials to take all possible measures to take up clean and green drive around the plant by laying red soil after levelling the surroundings of the yard. He also ordered the officials to take steps for the auction of the dumper beds lying unused at the Excel plant. The officials were also asked to initiate measures for constructing a compound wall and for levelling the low-lying areas in the vicinity. Mr. Ravi Babu found the local people suffering due to lack of a proper road near the Excel plant and instructed the officials to immediately lay a black top road. He also inspected the walking track works being carried out at the Makineni Basavapunnaiah Stadium. He asked the sports and engineering officials to coordinate and bring the track into use immediately. Executive engineer Vijaya Bhasker, health officer Lakshmi Kumari and others were present.
