Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) employees took out a rally from the VMC office to Tummalapalli Kshetrayya Kalakshetram demanding payment of their salaries through treasury, here on Thursday.

In response to a call given by West Krishna Employees, Teachers and Workers Joint Action Committee, the VMC employees took part in the rally which culminated in a public meeting.

The JAC leaders said that the State Government was paying salaries of employees of other municipal corporation through treasury, but, the VMC was excluded from the list on the plea that Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme was being implemented in the city.

“The JNNURM Scheme has become a curse for the employees. If the Government pays salaries through Treasury Department, it will be Rs.50-crore additional burden to the Government per annum. But, the Government is not in favour of the staff, they said.

The JAC has decided to mount pressure on the State Government to pay salaries under 010 head of account, i.e., payment through treasury.

The other demands include: issuance of health cards, regularising the services of part time employees and fill up existing vacancies.

The JAC also wanted the Government to scrap the contract and outsourcing systems with regard to employment.

The JAC leaders wanted the new pension policy be withdrawn and continue old system to extend the pension benefit to all employees.

The VMC JAC leaders D. Eswar, District JAC chairman A. Vidyasagar, convener Md. Iqbal, treasurer Sambasiva Rao, Gazetted Officers’ Association president Nagesh Babu and others were present.
