The two-day Vizianagar Utsav that began on Sunday provided a platform for folk artists to perform in public, said Collector Vivek Yadav, who flagged off a rally to mark beginning of the utsav.

With Puli Veshaalu, Kolatam, Dhimsa, Tappetagullu, Gangireddulu in toe, the Collector, Municipal Chairperson P. Ramakrishna, MLA Meesala Gita, and MLC Dwarapureddy Jagadeeswara Rao led the rally up to Anand Gajapathi Auditorium.

Addressing a gathering at the auditorium, Mr. Yadav said that arrangements were made at seven places viz.fort, Government Sanskrit College, Gurajada Kala Bharati, Anand Gajapathi Auditorium, Kshatriya Kalyanamandapam, and Vizzi Stadium for conducting various cultural and other activities, including science and philately exhibitions and flower and horticulture shows. The objective of the utsav was to provide a platform for the decaying folk art forms and other cultural activities.

Later, he felicitated Sahasra Avadhani Kadimilla Vara Prasad at Sanskrit College and other eminent personalities in the town.

Flower show draws huge crowd

The flower and horticulture show at Kshatriya Kalyanamandapam is a major attraction. Cut flowers and dry flowers that were imported from Bangalore and Kolkata and the display of 8 to 15 year-old Bonsai trees, vegetable carvings, were a feast to the eyes. Deputy Director (Horticulture) P.N.V. Lakshminarayana said he was anticipating that the number of visitors for the flower show would exceed last year’s 1.5lakh.
