With women showing more interest in interior decoration, there is a good response for paintings, wood carvings, wall hangings, lace works, toys, and furniture, says artisans who have displayed their products at the Lepakshi Handicrafts Exhibition.
The 10-day crafts festival, which began on Thursday, had been receiving good response from people.
On Friday, the artisans displayed Nirmal paintings, brass items, Banjara embroidery, pearls, leather bags, wallets, Kondapalli and Etikoppaka toys, Kalamkari and jute material, sand toys, stone carvings, and cane furniture.
Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu inaugurated the exhibition at Gandhi Nagar. Lepakshi Handicrafts Emporium Manager D. Pardhasaradhi attended the inaugural programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vishnu said the government was according priority for weavers and implementing several welfare schemes for their families.
The exhibition would help display the products prepared by artisans of different areas and provide market for them. Silk sarees designed by weavers of Pochampalli, Venkatagiri, Mangalagiri, Chirala, and Narayanapeta have high demand in the market. Dress materials and garments of Jaipur and Madurai are the highlights of the exhibition.
“People are showing much interest in decorating houses. There is a good demand for wall hangings, curtains, paintings, wooden, and stone carving material, and embroidery works,” said Mutyalu, an artisan.
Discount
The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. even on Sundays and holidays. The Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited is offering 10 per cent discount on purchase of crafts and garments at the festival, says Mr. Pardhasarathi.
