Officials of the public health department in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Tuesday conducted surprise checks and sealed shops selling chicken, mutton, fish and prawns, in violation of the prohibitory orders issued in view of Gandhi Jayanthi.
The shops that came under VMC scanner were ‘Chicken ‘n’ Chicken’ at Darsipet, Basha Mutton Centre at Patamata, A1 Chicken Centre at Giripuram and many other mutton and chicken selling shops at Mogulrajpuram, said the Corporation’s Chief Medical Officer M. Satyanarayana Raju.
Sanitary inspectors, led by officials of the public health department, inspected areas like Singhnagar, Old Payakapuram, Mutyalampadu, Madhuranagar, Arundelpet, Krishnalanka, Ramalingeswara Nagar, Patamata, Darsipet, Gunadala and Machavaram, sealed shops that were found to be violating orders and seized 50 kg chicken, 25 kg mutton, 40 kg fish and five kg prawns.
A fine of Rs. 10,500 was collected from the violators. Public health wing officers Ratnavali, Gopal Naik, Babu, Srinivas, and Z. Srinivasa Rao and sanitary supervisors Subba Rao and Jai Surya and others participated in the inspections.
