Vijayawada Book Festival (VBF) drew huge crowds on Sunday which was the last day of the 12-day event. With it came to an end, the satisfactory journey book-lovers had through the world of literature and the organizers (Vijayawada Book Festival Society – VBFS) promised to keep the tradition going for many more years to come.
The VBFS thanked District Collector M. Raghunandana Rao, Municipal Commissioner C. Hari Kiran, National Book Trust and publishers from across the State who extended their support to the annual event. On the final day, attractive discounts were offered by the publishers and people did not waste the opportunity to buy the books of their choice.
The exhibition, which is organised for 11 days in fixed dates every year (from January 1 to 11) was extended by another day in view of the tremendous response it evoked this time.
It is estimated that the publishers garnered more than Rs 1.50 crore on an average for the nearly 300 stalls put up on the sprawling PWG grounds.
On Sunday evening, VBFS office-bearers D. Ashok Kumar, S. Rama Rao, R. Rama Swamy, B. Babjee, M.V. Narayana and others had a get-together at the exhibition venue and expressed gratitude to the people for supporting their endeavour.
Veteran journalist and Andhra Pradesh Grandhalaya Samstha Chairman Turlapati Kutumba Rao visited the stalls along with the organisers and wished them grand a success in future. The observation of birth centenaries of great writers on all days of the exhibition and various competitions conducted for children were the highlights.
