The Budameru drain spilled over from the culvert at New Rajarajeswaripeta near here on Monday night due to heavy rain that lashed the city on Sunday.
The floodwaters reached the brim level of the culvert, and receded slowly due to obstructions. Water that spilled over obstructed movement of vehicles, besides causing inconvenience to people from New Rajarajeswaripeta and other areas.
People, however, walked on the overflowing culvert to reach their destinations. Officials made arrangements to caution the people regarding the spilling over of the floodwaters. They said that floodwaters receded slowly due to logging by water hyacinth.
The hyacinth and obstructive materials were removed from the drain. The water level at Velagaleru on Budameru drain is about one and half feet. The city would witness inundation if it crossed 10 to 11 feet.
When contacted, Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu stated there were no inundations in the city due to Budameru drain or the rains that lashed the city.
