Unity runs mark Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary

Services of first Union Home Minister to the country recalled. In Kadapa District Collector K.V. Ramana, Joint Collector M. Rama Rao and officials of several departments, police personnel, NCC cadets and students participated in Rashtriya Ekta Diwas walk.

Glowing tributes were paid to the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel across the State on Friday on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Unity Runs and administering of pledges to protect the country’s integrity marked the event.

Participating in the programme as chief guest at Rajahmundry, City MLA Akula Satyanarayana said Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had taught fighting spirit and courage to the nation during the freedom movement. A host of dignitaries recalled the sacrifices made by martyrs like Patel, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Chandra Shekhar Azad. Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai said Sardar Patel and others took part.

People from different walks of life including students, officials and non-officials took part in the 'Run for Unity' held at Ongole marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It was flagged by Superintendent of Police Ch. Srikanth. Later, Collector G.S.R.K.R. Vijay Kumar administered Unity Pledge to students and others after Joint Collector K.Y. Naik flagged off an impressive run by students and others.

In Kadapa District Collector K.V. Ramana, Joint Collector M. Rama Rao and officials of several departments, police personnel, NCC cadets and students participated in Rashtriya Ekta Diwas walk from Ambkedar statue near the RTC bus stand to Kadapa Zilla Parishad.

The Collector flagged off the walk and paid rich tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 140th birth anniversary and administered a pledge to officials in the ZP conference hall. Kadapa Superintendent of Police Navin Gulati, District Revenue Officer S. Sulochana, officials and non-officials, BJP and VHP functionaries participated. The SP paid tributes to Patel on his birth anniversary by recalling his efforts to forge unity and camaraderie among people. He garlanded Patel’s portrait and administered Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge to police personnel in the Police Parade Ground here.

Additional SP Vijay Kumar, Armed Reserve DSP Chinnakrishna, AR personnel and District Police Office employees participated. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was also celebrated in Pushpagiri, Nagarjuna and several schools in the district.

In Nellore, students, youth, officials and people’s representatives actively participated in the Unity Run organised by the district administration. District Collector N. Srikanth flagged off the symbolic run which was organised across the country to mark the significance of the day for creating unity and harmony among people .

The rally was organised from VRC Centre in GT Road and a unity pledge was taken by all the young members on the occasion. The youngsters rededicated themselves for the cause of fostering good relations and peace in the community and nation.
