Alarmed over reports that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government has decided to give into the demand for separate Telangana, the Samaikyandhra protagonists have raised their pitch against bifurcation of the State.
They have asserted that they will launch massive agitations similar or more to the ones witnessed in Telangana if the government was contemplating dividing the State.
The APNGOs’ Association organised a meeting on ‘United Andhra’ here on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal dared TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao to prove his mettle by contesting either from Hyderabad or Secunderabad.
Any separatist leader could contest from State capital, but would not get even the deposit, he said, adding the people would teach a befitting lesson to such persons.
They (separatists) were creating violence while the ‘Samaikyavadis’ were maintaining silence. Except MIM leader Owaisi none dared to speak in favour of united Andhra. The people were living in an atmosphere of fear there, the MP said.
They misread the silence as helplessness, the united Andhra protagonists would definitely launch a big agitation if any indication to that effect comes out, the NGO leaders said.
Making it clear that any move to bifurcate the State would be unacceptable to them, they said the people would take on the government in all possible ways.
A state formed for Telugu-speaking people cannot be divided and the people would not allow division of not even an inch of the Telugu land, they opined.
Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao used to speak as if Hyderabad was their property. “But now, he is now game to a referendum on Hyderabad,” the speakers said.
“Every Telugu speaking person has a stake in Hyderabad,” they asserted.Vijayawada (West) MLA Velampalli Srnivas, Vijayawada (Central) MLA Malladi Vishnu, Vijayawada (East) MLA Yelamanchili Srinivas, Congress leaders Pyla Somi Naidu, youth Congress leader Devineni Avinash were present.
