Turnout of pilgrims poor at Gandhi Hill

August 17, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:09 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Gandhi Hill, one of the few tourist attractions in the city, is sparse with no visitors even as lakhs of pilgrims of the Krishna Pushkaram are moving around the hill since the beginning of the festival on August 12.

This is contrary to the expectations of the organisers who anticipated more than usual rush to the hill. They have also extended opening timings of the place and decided to allow visitors from morning 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. However, due to poor turnout of visitors on the first three days, regular timings, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. have been resumed. “The number of visitors is very thin. Is is less than the number of visitors during normal days,” said a caretaker at the hill. Lack of proper transport facilities and free bus services by the government are being blamed for lack of visitors at the only hill.
