On behalf of the State government, Industries Minister N. Amarnath Reddy offered silk vastrams to goddess Padmavathi Devi on the first day of annual brahmotsavams in Tiruchanur, here on Wednesday evening. Mr. Reddy, carrying vastrams over his head, was welcomed amidst vedic chants by Tirupati JEO Pola Bhaskar and temple Special Grade Deputy EO Munirathnam Reddy. Earlier in the morning, the nine-day celestial event was off to a colourful start with the Gajadhwajarohana mahotsavam.
After performing a series of rituals as per the tenets of Pancharatra Agama, the priests hoisted the ‘dhwaja patam,’ bearing the image of Gaja Vahanam, on the temple pillar.
Later to appease and invoke the blessings of the goddess Padmavathi and other deities, various ragas were rendered as per tradition, including Mayamalavagowla, Gandhara, Kousika, Punnagavarali, Bhupalam, Sri Ragam, Devagandhari, Sourastra etc. TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal, CVSO Ake Ravikrishna, and Additional CVSO Sivakumar Reddy were present.
Flower garden show
They later inaugurated a ‘Flower garden show’ arranged by TTD’s garden wing with varieties of colourful, traditional and exotic flowers in several mythological themes. The themes included Hanumantha Vishwarupam in Lanka, origin of Mahalakshmi in Ksheerasagara Madhanam, Govardhanagiridhara Govinda, Lord Srinivasa saving goddess Padmavathi from wild elephant and much more. TTD’s Ayurvedic wing also exhibited rare medicinal herbs in the exhibition. Garden Superintendent Srinivas took part.
