Three minor girls of a Social Welfare Hostel at Buttayagudem were allegedly subjected to sexual abuse. The police rescued the victims and sent them to a rescue home in the city while registering a case against two staffers of the hostel and three outsiders.

According to Superintendent of Police K. Raghurami Reddy, a night watchwoman of the hostel acted as a conduit in trafficking of the girls while the in-charge warden was accused of suppressing the evidence. The other three men were charged with rape.

The SP, who visited the scene of offence on Wednesday, said a case was booked against the accused under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act known as Nirbhaya Act.

Demonstration

Meanwhile, activists of the Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) staged a demonstration and submitted a petition to the Tahsildar seeking protection for the inmates of social welfare hostels and stringent action against the accused. The hostel was cordoned off by the police.
