Thirumalai for world championship

Paralympic athlete S. Thirumalai Kumar is all set to take part in the world championship for physically challenged to be held in Doha (Qatar) in October.

Kumar, who is working as a booking supervisor at Vijayawada railway station, has qualified for the world meet when he threw the discus to a distance of 35.46 metres at the National Para-Athletic Championships at Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), which concluded on Monday.

His throw fetched him the gold medal. He will also take part in the first Indian Open Athletic Championship slated to be held in New Delhi from May 2 to 9.

Mr. S. Srinivas, a travelling ticket inspector, has been nominated as coach for the Indian athletic team for the forthcoming International athletic meets. Sports Authority of India (SAI) has nominated him as Indian coach for the coaching camp being held at the SAI Centre, Bengaluru, for short distance preparations. Mr. Ashok Kumar, DRM, Mr. N.S.R. Prasad, Additional DRM, Mr. N.V. Satyanarayana, Senior DCM and Mr. Ramesh Chandra, Divisional Sports Officer, congratulated Mr. Kumar and Mr. Srinivas.
