Thermal unit commissioning date before fiscal end: APGenco

January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The APGenco is planning to declare the commercial operations date of two units (2 X 800 MW) at Krishnapatnam Thermal Power Station before March-end.

The power utilities have intensified efforts to optimise thermal power generation in view of the projected increase in the demand. The Energy Department anticipates a steep increase in the demand once the works on the construction of new capital commences and investments start flowing into the IT and industrial corridors.

The utilities had initiated steps to significantly enhance the contribution of wind and solar power to the grid as this would help stabilise the system in the long term. Steps are being taken to adopt latest technologies to keep technical losses below 10 per cent.

APGenco Chairman and MD K. Vijayanand said the power utilities were chalking out plans to strengthen the extra high voltage transmission network to meet the demand.
