Nursing students of Vijaya Institute of Medical Sciences on Wednesday recreated the magic of Onam on the institute campus at Durgapuram.

All the major highlights of the harvest festival of Kerala were kept intact. Pookkalam, the enchanting floral patterns grabbed attention effortlessly while the festooned surroundings reflected the upbeat mood of the students.

Girls, attired in traditional white silk saris with golden border teamed with a contrasting red blouse, had strings of jasmine flowers entwined in their tresses left loose.

The mythological belief of King Mahabali’s visit to God’s Own Country every year this day to see if his subjects are happy and prosperous, was enacted by the girls in an impressive way.

College chairman Arjun Rao, who presided over the function, said it was a traditional practice to celebrate Onam in a grand fashion at the institute.

He said Onam was an occasion that brought people from all strata of society on a common platform.

Fr. Joseph V., S.B. Nambiar, T. Mohan Daniel, K.R. Madhu Kumar, Fr. S. Anthony, Fr. Bijay S, Bro. C. A. James, Francis V., B.V. Ramana Reddy, Arul Das and Santosh Cherian were guests on the occasion.
