School children will now have a reason to smile while picking up a copy of The Hindu to read every morning. Keeping their area of interests in view, the newspaper has designed ‘The Hindu in School', a delightful blend of news, education and entertainment exclusively for school children.

The young ones will get to read the all-important news of the day from across the world on the first page of this newly-launched eight-page edition. ‘Metroscape', the second page is a feature section highlighting interesting facets of life from different sections followed by news of national and international importance on ‘Nationwide' (page 3) and ‘World View' (page 4) respectively.

Signpost, the page 5 is all about keeping the children informed about good food, events and places to visit. Trailing closely behind is the Science and Tech section to raise their inquisitive streak and the last two pages have been devoted to the indispensable Sports news.

The Hindu , Vijayawada, launched the new edition of the paper at a function held at its office on 100 ft Road on Sunday. Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Kolanukonda Sivaji, push-started the button at the press section of the newspaper office, marking the formal launch.

Speaking at a meeting that followed, Mr. Sivaji informed about his long association with the newspaper. Speaking about the significance of reading a paper like The Hindu in student's life, he suggested that some space in the new edition could be utilised to promote Right to Education Act (RTA).

All-India Radio, Vijayawada, Station Director Mangalagiri Aditya Prasad, released the first copy of the edition and handed it over to Mr. Sivaji. He said The Hindu had been rendering yeomen service to the society by taking up social causes. He said the newspaper was in the habit of experimenting with innovative things which was very beneficial for school-going children.

Deputy Education Officer, Krishna sistrict, Narasimha Rao, said in this globalised world, knowledge of English language and computers was essential for growth. “If you have a laptop with you and you have good command over English language, you can rule the world,” he said.

Principals of the local schools also attended the inaugural session. Sharing their views, some of them highlighted the important role played by The Hindu in a student's career. Complimenting the newspaper for its unbiased coverage, they suggested that in the new edition, a separate page be allocated to education.
