Temporary capital: stone-laying tomorrow

Construction to be completed before June 15. The Cabinet decided to pay Rs. 3,350 per sq. ft. to the successful bidders.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for temporary capital at Velagapudi village in Guntur district at 8.23 a.m. on February 17. The State Cabinet discussed the bids filed by L&T and Shapoorji Pallonji and Co. for construction of the interim capital.

The Cabinet decided to pay Rs. 3,350 per sq. ft. to the successful bidders.

The government will shell out Rs. 201 crore on construction of the interim capital complex, which will be used for commercial purpose on completion of permanent capital, according to Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana.

Giving details of the Cabinet meeting here on Monday, Mr. Narayana said that the cost rose by approximately 12 per cent of the original estimates.

The government agreed to pay Rs. 3,350 per sq ft as it was determined to shift the darbar by June.

The firms were asked to complete the construction before June 15.

The companies would have to execute the work in three shifts a day to meet the deadline, he said.

Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Minister Palle Raghunath Reddy said that the government decided to amend the Private Medical Establishments Act to promote organ donations in the State.

The Centre permitted the States to modify the Act to suit their requirements.

The proposed amendments would also help encourage tissue donation and develop tissue banks, he said adding “the private, government, single doctor, nursing homes etc. would have to register details such as doctors and staff and equipment available online. The digital data would be maintained.”

Mr. Reddy said that the Cabinet also decided to allot 2747.65 acres for development of industrial hub in Kurnool district at Rs.2 lakh per acre to the APIIC.

The government would also provide 28.17 acre (each acre costs Rs. 7 lakh) to APGenco for construction of Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station in Nellore district.

Land for NDRF

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) would be given 2 acre land at Bheemunipatnam in Visakhapatnam district free of cost.

Another major decision was to provide incentive to ferro alloys industries in the State.

The power would be supplied with a rebate of Rs. 1.50 per unit.

Geo-tagging

The Cabinet also decided to implement geo-tagging technology in supply of sand. As many as 1,002 farmer producers’ organisations would be promoted in the State with 9,12,123 farmers to improve their economic status, he added.
