Sometimes hero worship takes bizarre twists and turns. Fans of silver screen heroes resort to novel ways of celebrations and protests primarily to catch the attention of the general public and media.

In one such event, a teenager plunged into the Ryve’s canal in protest against removal of a massive cutout of cine actor Mahesh Babu’s near Alankar Theatre here on Sunday. His associates immediately swung into action and saved their friend who was shouting slogans hailing his hero even while he was sinking.

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials removed a cutout of about 50- feet erected by Mahesh Babu Fans commemorating release of their hero’s new flick Aagadu .

Governorpet CI P. Sunil Kumar said that there was no permission for the erection of the cutout owing to presence of high tension (HT) wires. “It was posing danger to the passersby and residents. More so, the electrical wires were passing behind the cutout. In case of heavy winds there is every possibility of the cutout collapsing and that is the reason we denied permission, said a police officer.
