Telugu Desam Party and YSRCP members gathered dangerously close to each other and raised slogans in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Friday after Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddhaprasad adjourned the House to cool down tempers.
It appeared as though there would be a flare up any moment but it was averted within minutes.. The incident was a sequel to a war of words launched by Leader of Opposition Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy during a debate on Hudhud cyclone when he said the State government conducted itself in a manner that put the civil society to shame by “throwing packets of lemon rice and milk” at the cyclone victims.
Labour Minister K. Atchan Naidu shot back saying members of the House were ashamed to sit amidst Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy when he should have been attending a court case. It led to a furore as YSRC members stormed the podium, resulting in Mr. Buddhaprasad adjourning the House. Thereafter, YSRC and TDP members threw challenges at each other and gathered in the middle of the hall.
Another standoff Earlier, Social Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu and YSRC member P. Anil Kumar kicked off another bout of standoff between when fee reimbursement for A.P. students in Telangana was debated. The Minister termed Mr. Kumar’s contention that the government wanted to exempt backward class students from the facility as a lie and blamed the YSRC for the misery of the State.
The YSRC members also rushed to the podium on a remark by TDP whip K. Ravi Kumar that Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy was unable to stomach the popularity of the government after the cyclone relief measures in Vizag.
