July 06, 2011 02:33 pm | Updated 02:33 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The Telugu Desam Party took strong exception to the appointment of Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao as the public welfare committee chairman by the State government.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, TDP general secretary Varla Ramaiah alleged that Mr. Ramachandra Rao was the focal point of corruption during Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's tenure in the State. It was Mr. Ramachandra Rao who prepared a route map for the corruption in the State. It was not proper to appoint Mr. Ramachandra Rao as the welfare committee chairman, he said. Whether the MP was appointed to guide Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in amassing Rs. 1 lakh crore or for raising funds for All India Congress Committee meting? What were his qualifications to be appointed as the committee chairman? he said, adding, “it was a wrong decision, and would send wrong signals among the people. The government should immediately withdraw the appointment.”

TDP urban general secretary S. Ravindra Verma, Telugu Yuvata executive secretary Y. Vedavyas, secretary P. Chandrababu were also present.
