The dream of the residents of Swarnabharathi Nagar in the city to have drinking water supply through pipeline is likely to be materialised soon, as Minister for Social Welfare Ravella Kishore and his Agriculture counterpart Prathipati Pulla Rao on Saturday laid foundation stone for laying the water pipelines in the colony.

For many years, the residents had to depend on water tankers provided by Guntur Municipal Corporation, with the lack of water pipelines and the ground water too saline for consumption. The colony, mostly inhabited by daily workers, auto drivers and their families, since its inception in 2000, has been at the mercy of the water tankers.

Recently, the Panchayat Raj Department has constructed two elevated service reservoirs of 40 KL capacity each at Adavitakkellapadu. The Housing Department has also built two 250 KL elevated water reservoirs. But, the lack of a water pipelines in the colony has been an obstacle in ensuring continuous supply of water.

The residents of Swarnandhra Nagar, IDWA Nagar and Adavitakkellapadu share similar plight and the families, including children, were most vulnerable to viral diseases. Minister for Social Welfare Ravella Kishore Babu, during his poll campaign, promised that he would ensure potable water supply to every household in these areas.

With the laying of pipelines which would be done at a cost of Rs. 1.4 crore, every household will get continuous water supply. The Minister promised to transform Swarnabharathi Nagar into a developed colony.

The Minister also promised that a Primary Health Centre, school and a bank would be set up in the colony soon.
