Vijayawada Sub-Collector D. Harichandana has appealed to the public not to underestimate fire and take measures to prevent accidents while constructing buildings.
Ms. Chandana hoisted the Fire Services flag at PWD Grounds in connection with ‘Fire Services Awareness Week’ inaugural, which also coincides with ‘Martyr’s Commemoration Day’, on Sunday. The fire personnel observed silence for two minutes paying tributes to those who sacrificed their lives in battling fire. Ms. Chandana also paid rich tributes to the Fire Department staff
Krishna District Fire Officer (DFO) V. Srinivas said that five fire personnel – Nyan Rudra Paul (fireman), Tripura Fire and Emergency Services, V. Narasimha Rao (driver operator) of Andhra Pradesh, S.H. Sudam Sabar (fireman), Krushna Chandra Naik (leading fireman) and Sailendu Mohanty (assistant fire officer) of Odisha Fire and Emergency Services – died while discharging their duties in India this year.
Mr. Srinivas said that the A.P. State Disaster Response and Fire Service Department will organise demos and awareness programmes at several places in the district to enlighten public on how to prevent and tackle fire accidents.
Fire officers will create awareness among the doctors, traders, students and the residents on averting fire accidents, he said.
The Sub-Collector along with DFO, Assistant DFO B. Narasimha Rao, Station Fire Officer B. Srinivas and other officers flagged off a rally from PWD Grounds to Benz Circle, where the staff performed a demo. Ms. Chandana released posters and pamphlets on fire safety.
