Officials of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Fire Services Department on Monday demonstrated techniques to school students to prevent human and property losses during fire incidents.

Students of the Nirmala High School were trained in operating fire extinguishers and other equipment as a part of the Fire Services Week celebrations.

Fire Services Director K. Jayaram Naik, Additional Director P.V. Ramana, Regional Fire Officer S.V. Chowdary, Nirmala High School principal Jibi Antony, vice-principal Tresa and staff participated in the programme.

During the one-and-half hour demo, the Task Force personnel of the SDRF showed how to save people trapped in a building during fire, rescue residents through ladders and ropes and shift them to hospitals after administering first aid.

Fire tenders from Auto Nagar, Kothapeta and PWD Grounds were displayed in the school ground. Firemen explained how to put off flame, said Auto Nagar Station Fire Officer K. Srinivasa Rao. “The demos are good. The life-saving techniques displayed by Task Force personnel are very much impressive,” said K. Sai Pranathi, a ninth standard student of the Nirmala High School.

M. Ashraf Ali and K. Manish Sairam said this was the first time they watched a demo on fire mishaps and how to avoid human loss during accidents. “We will explain the firefighting techniques to our neighbours and friends,” the students told The Hindu .

Fifth standard students K. Dhanush and Y. Gnana Teja were happy to watch the foam demo and the rescue of victims trapped on the terrace of a building.

There was a huge applause from the students when Vamshi and Hari put off fire by operating extinguishers.
