Students of Samana Institute for Design Studies (SIDS) on Friday organised a rally-cum-walk to promote Khadi products. They raised slogans urging people to save weavers from losses.

The rally, which coincided with Gandhi Jayanti, started at the institute and passed through Benz Circle, M.G. Road and P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts and Science. The participants, carrying placards, chanted slogans asking people to promote Khadi products by buying them from weavers.

A student, operating a spinning wheel (charka) on a vehicle in the rally, attracted the public. They also displayed banners of Mahatma Gandhi with at the charka.

Speaking on the occasion, SIDS CEO Samana Moosavi said that the walk will help in enlightenment of the students on the need for using Khadi garments. The Samana Institute is educating its students on the quality of cotton garments manufactured by weavers and the advantages on use of those products.

Expressing concern over the impact of smuggled garments and products from other countries, the CEO appealed to the public to promote the indigenously-made garments and encourage weavers. “Government should strictly implement the rule on wearing Khadi products once in a week in all government institutions,” she said.
