It was an exciting experience for the 120 students of the Gudlavalleru College of Engineering (GCE) on Friday who were roped in by the authorities to play their part as ‘one-day police’ during the ZPTC, MPTC elections. They performed almost every duty that a police personnel was entitled to do during the polling held in Gudivada revenue division of Krishna district.
The second year engineering students, who were deployed by the police at the hyper-sensitive polling stations in seven mandals felt very well what it was like to be a police official. “We did not have only uniform, but we did almost everything what a police official is supposed to do. We took care of helping those in need and controlling voters who waited in queues. We enjoyed it a lot,” Bezavada Venkatesh, a mechanical engineering student said.
Mr. Venkatesh and his six friends were deployed at the booths in Gudivada rural to help the police during the day. “We realised the efforts the police do during elections. We have a great satisfaction of playing an active role during the poll” said B. Sarath Chandra, another student on duty. “The police allowed us to vote. It was a privilege to be on poll duty and a memorable experience to cherish,” Anup Kumar and Bharath said.
