More than 200 Telugu students studying at the National Institute of Technology-Puducherry, are among the students who are aggrieved by the abysmal infrastructure facilities, including lab facilities, computers and library.
They are on agitation path for last two days but in vain.
“The District Collector, who convened a meeting to resolve the issue, brushed aside our problems as trivial issues,” said P. Aditya, a student of the NIT over phone.
The officials are intimidating the students for launching the agitation. They are also dubbing the agitation as meaningless. There are no proper labs, which is highly improper as per the NIT standards. The equipment available is either damaged, obsolete or inaccurate. A lot of time and labour is wasted. This has been the situation for the past six years. How can the officials say these are trivial issues, asks K. Srikanth, his associate.
“For every subject in our curriculum 5 to 6 different books are mentioned, but in our library we do not have those books. The number of books available is also insufficient,” explains Mr. Aditya.
Basic facilities such as drinking water and classrooms are also not available. But, the students are not allowed to raise these issues. The students are being charged with going on strike in place where the election code is in force.
