Strengthen anti-corruption movement: Naidu

August 26, 2011 02:59 pm | Updated 02:59 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The future of the nation was in the hands of the youth who have to rise to the occasion and strengthen the movement against corruption, said Telugu Desam Party president Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

The TDP leader made a whirlwind visit in the city covering all focal areas on Thursday. During his roadshow in the city, he said that corruption was like a cancer spreading fast in the nation and urged the youth to come forward to wipe out the menace. He added, “The time has come to strengthen the movement so that corruption can be weeded out from the country.”

A majority of the problems would be solved if an effective legislation was enacted against corruption. “After the freedom struggle, another struggle is needed, this time against corruption to achieve economic independence,” he said, exhorting the people, more particularly youth to join the movement. The country needs a strong law to punish the corrupt and confiscate the ill-gotten wealth. Also, the corrupt people should be barred from contesting elections. The Centre should bring back black money stashed away in foreign banks and utilise it to fund development programmes, said, Mr. Naidu, who voiced his support to social activist Anna Hazare. On the allegations of having a Swiss bank account and a hotel in Singapore, Mr. Naidu said if anyone proves the charges he will donate all those assets to them. “Twenty four inquiries have been ordered and nine petitions filed against me during YSR regime, but nothing has been proved,” he said.

Recalling that N T Rama Rao founded the TDP against corruption and uplift the poor, he said that his government had taken all the decisions in a transparent manner, he said, adding that he was ready to face any inquiry over allegations of corruption levelled against him by YSR Congress party president Jaganmohan Reddy and others. At a point of time he became emotional, and said, “I am ready to sacrifice my life for you.” The YSR Congress Party is offshoot of the corrupt Congress, he alleged. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy gave us peanuts and presented crores of rupees and natural resources on a platter to his son Mr. Jagan, he added. Mylavaram MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, MLC Nannapaneni Rajakumari and ex MP Gadde Rammohan were present.
