The Communist Party of India (CPI-M) city committee has urged the government to streamline pension disbursal procedures.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, CPI(M) city secretariat member D. Vishnuvardhan said the decision to disburse pensions at the doorstep of beneficiaries from April 1 was laudable. “But, there are many lacunae in the system, which the government needs to address on a war footing,” he added.
“The machines supplied to post offices have not recognised the fingerprints of beneficiaries. Aadhaar card seeding has not been done properly. Incorrect data was fed by operators, putting pensioners to hardship. There are 1,931 beneficiaries who are not receiving pensions for these reasons. In addition, more than 6,000 people who have applied for pension under programmes like Janmabhoomi, are yet to be paid their dues,” he said.
CPI(M) 37{+t}{+h}Division Corporator G. Adilakshmi, party city secretariat member K. Sridevi and city committee member B. Sattibabu also spoke.
