Steps afoot to make rythu bazars consumer-friendly, says official

Need for ensuring transparency in allotment of shops stressed

Chief Executive Officer of rythu bazars P.S. Pradyumna has said that all efforts are being made to strengthen the network of the rythu bazars in the State so as to pass on the benefits to the farmers and consumers in a more efficient manner.

Addressing estate officers of rythu bazars at a review meeting here on Sunday, Mr. Pradyumna said all measures would be taken to improve facilities such as drinking water, sanitation to make rythu bazars more consumer-friendly.

Transparency

He asked the officials concerned to make proposals for improving these facilities and also for opening new centres in needy areas.

Mr. Pradyumna stressed the need for ensuring transparency in the allotment of shops at rythu bazars to make sure that middlemen would not take away the benefits from the farmers and consumers.

e said that shops should be allotted to new persons every year so that opportunities would be created to all under this concept.

Stating that some complaints were being lodged from different centres, Mr. Pradyumna said that the officials concerned should launch a thorough inquiry into the complaints that fresh and top quality vegetables were being diverted from the rythu bazars for sale in the open market at higher rates.

He warned of removing the officials if they were found guilty of causing malpractices.

Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal said that new proposals had been sent for opening rythu bazars at Kankipadu, Bapulapadu, Kaikaluru, Tiruvuru, and Vidyadharapuram. He said that locations accessible to more people would have to be identified for opening rythu bazars and new proposals would be prepared based on the need in different areas.
