Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has said that the government is giving priority to health and education and is striving for all-round development of the State.

Participating as chief guest in the Maha Sankalpa Sabha organised here on Wednesday to mark N. Chandrababu Naidu’s completion of two years of his tenure as Chief Minister, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said the self-sustenance in power sector was a major achievement of the State.

It helped in attracting huge investments. The government took necessary action for improving the ease-of-doing-business and achieved phenomenal success.

A slew of reforms were taken up to alleviate the plight of workers in the unorganised sector. Five-thousand kilometres of village roads were converted into CC roads. Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said development works costing Rs.3000 crore were under progress in Vijayawada city.

Construction of the Kanaka Durga flyover at a cost of Rs. 450 crore is going on at a brisk pace.

The Machilipatnam port would start taking shape soon, the Minister claimed.

Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said emphasis was laid on sprucing up the city for ‘Krishna Pushkaram’. The infrastructure created for it would give the city a permanent facelift, he said, and dwelt at length on the progress made by various other departments.

MLC Buddha Venkanna, MLAs Gadde Rammohan and Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and Jaleel Khan, Chief Minister’s Special Secretary P.S. Pradyumna, District Collector Babu A. and municipal commissioner G. Veerapandian were among those present.
