Reacting bitterly to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders remarks that the State government failed to provide necessary information to MECON on Kadapa steel, TDP Ministers asserted that the Union government was misleading the people on the issue of setting up the steel plant at Kadapa.

Addressing a press conference at Secretariat on Wednesday, Mines and Geology Minister Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao and Industries Minister Amarnatha Reddy said that the Centre was citing trivial reasons as it had no intentions to implement the provisions of the reorganisation Act.

The State government had provided all necessary information. The government told that the task force committee that it would give concessions and provide land, power, water and transportation facilities. The government gave information pertaining to availability and quality of iron ore for the proposed steel plant. The Centre was not reacting in desired fashion though the State government was keen and sincere in setting up the steel plant, they said.

The Centre was citing wrong reasons and citing the Steel Authority of India Limited's (SAIL) feasibility report. It told the Supreme Court that the steel plant was not financially viable citing the SAIL report. The Centre was not revealing the MECON report, they said.

AP Planning Board Vice Chairman C. Kutumba Rao was present.
