Krishna district retained its eighth position in the State in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination 2011, the results of which were declared on Saturday.
District Education Officer (DEO) D. Venkata Subbaiah said although the overall pass percentage had increased by 1.52 per cent this year, the district retained its last year's eighth position in the State.
A total of 50,944 students appeared for the examination in the district. Of them, 43,649 passed, contributing to an overall pass percentageof 85.68 per cent.
Of the total number of 26,090 boys who wrote the test, 22,315 of them passed, recording an 85.53 pass percentage. Although by a small margin, but girls just managed to outsmart boys by registering a pass percentage of 85.84 per cent. Of the total number of 24,854 girls who wrote the test, 21,334 of them passed.
“We expected to touch a pass percentage of 90 per cent this year and worked hard to achieve the target but could not do so,” said Mr. Venkata Subbaiah.
Municipal Commissioner G. Ravibabu said students of the Corporation-run schools had performed well recording 84 per cent of pass percentage.
Rajiv Kumar of the Municipal School at Kandrika emerged the topper by securing a total of 571 marks.
Meanwhile, schools in the city, which almost waited with a bated breadth for the result, broke into announcement-spree once the exam outcome was declared.
P.N.S. Bhargav of Ravindra Bharathi Public School emerged the school topper by securing a total of 585 marks. In the Indian Springs School run by the NRI Academy, Chandra Gupta Mourya bagged the top position in the school by securing a total of 585 marks.
P. Bhavya of Bhashyam Public School topped the institution by securing a total of 584 marks.
Vinutna of Nalanda Vidya Niketan emerged as the school topper by securing a total of 578 marks, K. Apoorva Tejaswi and K.F.V. Prasanth were declared toppers of D.A.V. Public School by securing a total of 571 marks each. P. Divya Anusha of M.K. Gandhi Concept School topped the institution by securing a total of 572 marks.
Y. Phanindrababu of Sri Viswasanthi School at Vuyyuru topped the school by securing a total of 579 marks.
