Sri Krishna was born in Hyderabad, but has been brought up in Vijayawada. He holds his experience with people in the city as very unique.
Born in a normal household with no singing lineage, Sri Krishna is now heralded as the successor of S. P. Balasubrahmanyam by none other than the living legend himself. “My family was very apprehensive in the beginning about my career choice but I knew I had to become a singer and I worked hard for it,” he said in an informal chat with The Hindu on Tuesday. He says that he is thankful to both the city and people of Vijayawada for their continuous support from the beginning.
Sri Krishna, who had completed his degree in P.B. Siddhartha Arts College and Post Graduation from Sarada College, said that he was grateful to the managements of both the colleges for their unwavering encouragement at the beginning of his career.
The singer said that he is especially indebted to Krishna Kumari of Akashwani in Vijayawada. He excitedly reminisces about the day when as a kid he walked into the All India Radio office along with his younger brother and asked her for a chance to speak on the radio. “She was the first one who gave me a chance and who would always support me and guide me in my endeavours,” he recalls. Starting as a child anchor in Akashwani, Sri Krishna went on to participate in many stage shows and competitions.
His first break was with the song “Adinchi ashta chamma” in the movie Ashta Chamma. The singer is now busy with various stage shows, Airtel Supersinger 7 and many exciting projects with music directors Koti, Mani Sharma and others.
He ends the interview by saying that though he had moved to Hyderabad in 2007, Vijayawada will always be his city and that he would never forget his teenage memories of having ice-cream in Ravindra Cool drinks and roaming around Besant Road.
