Spoorthi awards to be presented on Feb.25

The award carries a cash prize of ₹3 lakh and a citation

Founder of Silicon Andhra, Kuchibotla Anand (Education), popular Telugu writer Popuri Lalitha Kumari known by her pen name, Volga (Telugu Literature) are among the four personalities chosen for the annual Spoorthi Awards instituted by Bommidala Srikrishnamurthy Foundation. The other awardees are Bala Theresa Singareddy Gingras (Rural Development) , founder of Sopar-Bala Vikasa and RTI activist K.M Yadav (Social Service). The awards would be presented at a function to be held at Sri Venkateswara Vignana Mandiram on February 25.

Judge Supreme Court of India, Justice Lavu Nageswara Rao would be the chief guest and give away the awards. Deputy Speaker, AP Legislative Council, Mandali Buddha Prasad is the guest of honour.

The awardees have been chosen by the jury headed by retired Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Justice A. Lakshmana Rao and consisting of historian Vakulabharanam Ramakrishna and retired professor K. Vasudeva Rao.

Justice Lakshmana Rao and Mr. Krishnamurthy said that the awardees have been chosen in categories of Telugu Literature, Education, Rural Development and Social Service. Each awardee would be honoured with a citation, a memento and a cash prize of Rs.3 lakh.

Mr. Anand, though his organization-Silicon Andhra- has been promoting Telugu language in the USA through ``Mana Badi,’’ Ugadi, Annamacharya Jayanthi and International Kuchipudi Summit. Olga has been an outstanding feminist writer while Mrs. Therasa, though her organization, Bala Vikas, Warangal, has been working in backward areas of AP and Telangana by providing potable water, encouraging organic farming.

Mr. Yadav has been a fearless RTI activists taking on the might of powerful politicians and corrupt officers in Uttar Pradesh. He has been featured in BBC programme- ``Unsung Heroes,’’ and fondly called as Information warrior in his native place.

Bommidala Charitable Trust instituted in the year 1996 has been contributing immensely in the fields of education, health and social service. The establishment of Bommidala Cancer Hospital at Pedakakani, Bommidala Human Resources Development Centre at Acharya Nagarjuna University, hostel for boys at Nagarampalem and continuous help to publications are some of the activities of Foundation.
