A three-day exhibition organised by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation was inaugurated on Friday at DRR Municipal Indoor Stadium, to commemorate this honour and also to create awareness among people in the city about the benefits of using solar energy.
On display were various solar-powered gadgets such as lights, table fans, water heaters, water purifiers, inverters. Such items require only about 20 degrees of heat, hence were ideal during all seasons.
About 20 stalls of various companies from all over India were put up, including well-known companies such as Phillips and Efftronics, who were the sponsors of the exhibition.
Honeywell offer
The exhibition also pointed out the fact that going green was also pocket-friendly, with companies such as Honeywell providing free setup in the city limits.
The city's logo ‘The city on the fastrack' was justified, with Mumbai-based companies such as MPIL Solar Solution, in association with Anjaneyulu Constructions, planning to build a solar power sustained apartment complex in Prasadampadu Colony in the city, which would result in 30 per cent less electricity consumption for residents.
Krishna district Collector S.A.M Rizvi, Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu, MLC Jalli Wilson, and others graced the stage on this occasion. The Collector said small changes such as switching to a CFL lamp due to which 10 times power could be saved would lead to big gains and hoped that all citizens would come and visit the exhibition. Later, the Solar City logo of Vijayawada was also released by the Collector on the premises. The informative exhibition will be open till Sunday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Daily seminars and cultural activities will be conducted for all the visitors.
