Rio Olympic Silver medallist P.V. Sindhu was star attraction at the All India Ranking (Men and Women) Badminton Tournament Guntur-2017 being played at the Guntur Club Badminton Academy here on Monday.
The presence of world top ranked player Sindhu at the synthetic shuttle badminton courts at the Guntur Club added sparkle to the event organised by the Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association. Minister for Civil Supplies Prathipati Pulla Rao, club secretary Chukkapalli Ramesh, APBA secretary Rayapati Ranga Rao and Badminton Association of India secretary Punnaiah Chowdary welcomed the champion shuttler.
“I am happy to be in Guntur which has produced top players like Kidambi Srikanth. I used to visit Guntur often while I was a junior player and I appreciate the efforts of Guntur Club in hosting a senior national ranking tourney, in which top national players across the country are taking part,” Ms. Sindhu said. Earlier, Ms. Sindhu visited the synthetic shuttle courts and played a couple of rallies with Mr. Pulla Rao. Much to the delight of other players, Ms. Sindhu interacted with a few players and encouraged them. Ms. Sindhu’s father and Arjuna Awardee P.V Ramana Rao was present.
