March 21, 2012 02:09 pm | Updated 02:10 pm IST - NELLORE:

Seven boys, belonging to Minerva School, allegedly drowned in the local Peddacheruvu (tank) in Kavali in the SPS Nellore district on Tuesday evening.

All the boys were studying in Class X and their clothes and cycles were seen placed on the bund.

Search operations were launched but there was no trace of the bodies.

Initially, the boys were thought to have gone missing but ultimately it seemed they went into the Peddacheruvu tank for bathing.

Expert swimmers

The district machinery launched emergency search operations with the help of expert swimmers.

District Collector B. Sridhar said that the revenue and police officials had been directed to carry out the rescue operation.

The names of missing boys were stated to be Bharath, Rohith, Sai Praveen, Harish, R.V. Sai, Maha Sivaraj and Siva Reddy.

DSP P. Indira reached the spot. “There were uneven pits in the tank where the boys went for a bath,” she said.
