A 70-year-old woman was on Thursday found chained to a cot and left on the terrace of a building in hot sun.

On receiving information from neighbours, officials of the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department visited the house in Bethlehem Nagar and shifted Prakasamma to the Government General Hospital (GGH), said WD&CW Krishna district Project Director K. Krishna Kumari.

Ms. P. Prakasamma has a son Anjaiah and a daughter. Anjaiah is a mason. The family members tried to kill the elderly woman by not providing food and water, the neighbours complained.

“When we visited Anjaiah’s house at Chinna Church, the victim was struggling to survive in a small tent erected with torn banners,” said One Stop Centre Central Administrator Sagineni Rukmini Devi of the WD&CW Department.

“We will register a criminal case against the family members. She would be provided shelter in a home,” the PD said.

WD&CW case worker Prema Lathe said Ms. Prakasamma was also not given bath for many days.

Neighbours complained that the family members bet her after tying her to the cot, said another case worker Lakshmi. The WD&CW Department would provide medical aid and take care of the victim, the PD added.
