Senior citizens showcase their athletic skills

It was a day to remember for senior citizens of the city for they took part in a sports meet enthusiastically to exhibit their on-field skills and also their healthy way of life on Sunday.

Nearly 65 veterans in the five age groups took part in the events held in at Veeramachineni Paddayya Siddhartha Public School grounds, organised by the Krishna District Senior Citizens Welfare Association.

Speaking at the inaugural function, city East MLA Gadde Ram Mohan highlighted the role of the senior citizens in society and exhorted the youngsters to emulate and learn from them. “Their knowledge and expertise will be helpful to society and it is the responsibility of society to honour and respect them”

He also expressed his surprise at the agility with which the veterans in the age of 60 to 80 plus including women took part in running, walking, shot put and discus throw events.

The organisers made elaborate arrangements including first aid keeping in mind the age of the participants.
