The Vijayawada Railway Station was spruced up in the wake of South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager G.N. Asthana's inspection scheduled on Wednesday.
In the wake of the GM's visit, senior railway officials of the station have been on their toes. The railway station is being given a fresh look and the moving area is also being cleaned up. The potted plants came up on platform number one with freshly-coated red oxide on the pots.
The sanitation level across the railway complex and the tracks has undergone immense improvement. The dirty railway tracks surrounding were spruced up on a war-footing. The pungent smell of bleaching powder sprayed over the track could be experienced everywhere.
Mr. Asthana and his team of higher-ups arrived here on Tuesday by a special train from Secunderabad. They left to Gudur at 9 a.m. He is scheduled to inspect Tenali, Bapatla, Tsundur, Ongole, Bitragunta, and Nellore on the way to Gudur. The team will also inspect bridges, tracks, level gates etc. Later, they will move to Narsapur.
The team will leave Narsapur on Wednesday morning, and is scheduled to inspect the sanitation etc in stations like Palakole, Bhimavaram, Gudivada, and Vijayawada.
On Tuesday, Mr Asthana inspected the railway station here on Tuesday as part of the annual exercise of evaluating the facilities at railway stations and development works. He was accompanied by Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager Anurag and other officials.
Mr. Asthana inspected the additional platform which is under construction and suggested to the officials to open two more reservation counters to cater to the increasing passenger traffic.
He said that due priority was given to upgrading the railway network between Tenali and Gudur which connect important cities in the south. The station would be better equipped to enhance safety and comfort levels of the passengers, he asserted.
