The South Central Railway became the first 100% LED-lit zone. It achieved the milestone on June 20 well before the target date of June 30 set by Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal.

It provided 1,64,291 LED bulbs replacing the conventional ones in 23,740 residential quarters. This will result in 35.4 lakh unit electrical energy saving amounting to ₹3 crore per annum apart from reduction in carbon emission by 3,187 tonnes per year.

Earlier, the SCR provided 1,35,417 LED luminaries to cover all its 733 stations and 1,424 service buildings by March 2018, which also was a first among all zones.

The cumulative impact is 82 lakh units electrical energy savings worth ₹7 crore per annum and reduction of carbon emission by 7,372 tonnes per year, contributing to a greener environment.

Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, SCR, congratulated A.A. Phadke, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, and the staff of the electrical department on the achievement.
