‘Scope for dental practice good in small towns’

August 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:20 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Dental Council of India president Dibyendu Mazumder said on Friday that there was a lot of scope for lucrative dental practice in small towns. This was because most dentists were flocking to big cities.

Addressing the Post-Graduate Students’ Convention organised by the Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) here, Prof. Mazumder said that a lot of dental students were getting disheartened after seeing the posts of dentists filled to the brim in metros. Actually there was a scarcity of dentists in the country if the ratio between the population and number of dentists was taken into consideration.

The number of dentists was still low when compared to engineers, he said. Over 300 delegates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Odisha attended the convention. About 150 papers and poster presentations were made at the convention by the delegates. The convention was held in Vijayawada mostly due to the efforts of IOS president K. Gangadhara Prasad, who belongs to the State.
